The GATE score is also valid for Job opportunity at 43 Public Sector units ( commonly known as PSU) in INDIA .IIT Bombay (Conducting body for GATE 2021) on 25th July, 2020 announced dates, registration process and few new changes for upcoming GATE 2021.This Article covers the following Points
According the latest circular by IIT Bombay the following changes have taken place in GATE 2021.
(i) The eligibility criteria of 10+2+4 has been changed to Old formula of 10+2+3 , hence Making 3 rd year students also eligible to take Up GATE. This is Not new to GATE as from 2003 to 2011 the same was followed for admission to IIT. This move basically provides a better prospect to Fresh engineers To test Their skills an year ahead of course completion and get to know His lacuna if Any on a National level. This Move is also taken as a Move To attract bigger audience from commerce And Arts streams Towards IIT. If This experiment is Successful, In future HRD Ministry, which is very much concern about The quality of engineers Passing out of Engineering college, Might look at making GATE a compulsory exit Exam. This will remove the ambiguity of Grading system by various universities and can bring All graduates on Same platform.
This move is welcomed from all parties involved
Students’ Prospective : Students from 3rd year are really happy to be Able to attempt GATE in coming February, 2021 instead of 2020.Though their preparation Was Going on As per the old rule but now they Will have To pace up In next 6 months above That they also hae good chance to take GATE 2022 and apply through best of two scores. (For Admissions to masters course at IIT , The GATE score is valid for 3 years). Though the Students are still Perplexed about the Acceptance Of third year Score by Psu but provided an opportunity to appear in the exam an year ahead is really liked by them
GATE Prospective : This will enable them to take better candidates in the courses . There are provision at various IIT for lateral courses after 3 year which Can be On the Basis of 3rd year GATE score. According to statements given by IIT authorities this is taken as an step to replace exam like UGC NET, or CAT or Any other exam to any course at IIT. Many IIT uses CAT score for MBA admissions

(ii) Two New branch of engineering namely environmental science and second one as Humanities and Social science Is added to the current 25 streams of GATE taking the Tally to 27 streams with most popular being Computer science engineering , followed by Mechanical engineering .

It offers integrated master’s of art degree programs in two major streams – Development Studies and English. Launched in the year 2006, the entry to this program was done through Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination conducted by IIT Madras itself. The program intake is 45 seats.

The humanities department has the following disciplines Economics, English Literature, Linguistics, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology and CISTS (Sanskrit). It offers the following humanities degree B.S.Economics, MPhil – Planning and Development , PhD, M.A.-Ph.D. in Philosophy. Although BS.Economics is a relatively new course launched by IIT Bombay, with the first batch graduating in 2021. PhD has been offered since 1973 and MPhil since 1993.
This IIT offers Undergraduate, PostGraduate and PhD programs in Humanities and economic sciences. The HSS department here was founded in the 1960s with the following disciplines English (Literature and Linguistics), Economics, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology. It offers PhD in English, Fine Arts, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology. They will be updating the details regarding the PG programmes, other PhD soon.

Currently this IIT offers two programmes – An undergraduate level, 5 yr. integrated M Sc in Economics programe and a postgraduate level, Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM) programe. It has disciplines like English Language & Literature, Communication Studies, Economics, German, Philosophy, Psychology, Human Resource Management, History, Sanskrit and Sociology under its belt at present. The department came into existence in 1951 and since then is developing at a tremendous rate year on year.

The HS department at IIT Delhi offers humanities courses in disciplines like – Economics, Linguistics, Literature, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology. It offers 55 UG and 36 PG courses under PhD, Msc and Minor programmes. Check their site for all the information.

The HSS department at IIT Guwahati offers MA program in Development studies with an intake of 48. It is composed of disciplines like Economics, English, Linguistics, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, History, Archaeology, Political Science, Geography, Development Studies. The HS department at IIT Varanasi offers UG and PhD programmes only. Started in 2015, it offers only 4 disciplines- History, Philosophy, Sociology, English and Computational Linguistics, as of now.

The college as of now does not offer full fledged UG and PG programmes under HSS department. But, it does offer PhD programmes for humanities. The disciplines it houses are – communication, literature, philosophy, sociology, IPR and allied areas.
This IIT offers MSc. programme in Economics and PhD in all disciplines. Started in 1966 the HSS Department does research work in the fields of English, Economics, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Fine Arts and related inter & cross disciplinary subjects.
NIT Trichy offers full fledged PhD programmes under this department and minors programme for Economics and Literature category. The department started in 2004, has now launched a M.A. programme, in English and Language Literature, since 2020.
Validity of GATE exam for masters at any Institute is 3 years.
Gate is a very prestigious exam for engineering students as it test their technical Know-how.
